Before you enroll
Questions from parents.
Which grades can my student enter?
New students enter in grade 9, 10 or 11. A postgraduate year is sometimes possible. Taft prefers grades 9, 10 and 11 for entry and says a postgraduate year is appropriate at times.
Are test scores required?
Taft requires standardized testing for all applicants. Grade 9 and 10 applicants take the SSAT or ISEE. Grade 11 applicants may submit SSAT, PSAT, SAT or ACT scores. Grade 12 and postgraduate applicants may submit PSAT, SAT or ACT scores.
Which application should we use?
Apply with either the Standard Application Online or the Gateway to Prep Schools application. First complete the inquiry form to set up a Taft Admission Portal. Families need both a Taft Admission Portal and an account with either the SSAT or Gateway to Prep Schools.
What does it cost?
$81,400 for 2026-27 (boarding, including room and board) $60,050 for 2026-27 (day) Taft estimates $2,000 for books and spending money, separate from tuition. It says it charges no additional fees such as a technology fee or graduation fee.
Does Taft offer financial aid?
All awards are based on demonstrated need. Taft does not offer merit-based awards. Taft commits to meeting 100% of a family's need according to its financial aid methodology, including for international students.
Does need affect admission?
Taft initially reviews applications with a need-blind approach. If overall need exceeds the aid budget, need may be weighed as one of many factors in admission decisions.
Can we get an application fee waiver?
Domestic families experiencing financial hardship can request an application fee waiver, and waiver requests open August 1. Taft typically does not offer fee waivers to international students.
